Carmen Flannery

Miss Flannery holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Victoria and is passionate about finding innovative and creative ways to bring learning into her classroom. Miss Flannery grew up in Langley and spent several years working as the Education Assistant at the Langley Museum. During this time she developed and delivered a number of programs used around Langley to engage children in Langley’s history.  This was a wonderful opportunity to witness the strength a supportive community has to offer.

Miss Flannery spent this past summer in France practicing the language and experiencing the culture.  She is excited to share her experiences and enthusiasm with her French classes.  Over the past few years Miss Flannery has travelled extensively through New Zealand, Europe and the United States, and has brought back many interesting ideas for curriculum implementation.  Her travels have helped to develop an appreciation for our incredible planet.  She hopes to introduce her students to the beautiful natural environment that BC has to offer by bringing the classroom outside whenever possible.

Be it snowshoeing in Whistler or hiking in Manning Park, Miss Flannery loves to spend time outdoors and hopes to inspire her students to become more active in the nature around us.  She enjoys horseback riding and has had the opportunity to ride wild ponies in France, trail horses along the Remarkable Mountain Range in New Zealand and Connemara ponies in Ireland.  A dedicated animal lover, Miss Flannery has for many years volunteered her time with the SPCA and encourages her students to become active with causes that are meaningful to them.

Miss Flannery is looking forward to getting to know her students and the rest of the AZIA community.  She feels incredibly fortunate to have begun to develop a relationship with the community through functions at the school as well as the mosque and is excited to continue to learn along with her students.
